John Betzold

John N. Betzold

Born April 1, 1942 in St. Cloud, MN to Milton and Reva (nee Smith)Betzold. He passed away peacefully October 30, 2016 at his home.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Melinda (nee Argenio); children, Trey (Sherri) Cowhig, John M. Betzold, Jim Betzold, and Steve Betzold; grandchildren, Nick, Cody, John, Jerry, James, Laurel, Addison, BethAnne, Austin, Jake, and Grace; and brother, George (Sharen) Betzold. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shelley (Cowhig) Keiser and his parents.

John obtained his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and earned his master's degree from the University of Denver. His 46 year career in business as a National Groups Benefits Manager was with Prudential Insurance Company and Blue Cross Blue Shield. In addition to his business career, John served his country as an Officer in the United States Navy. He spent 3 years on active duty aboard the U.S.S. Randolph and 23 additional years in the reserves, where he advanced to the National Staff and attained the rank of Commander. As a proud veteran he continued his service by being involved in the Lake Barrington Shores Veteran Organization for over 10 years. In addition, he had the proud honor of administering the Oath of Enlistment to his grandson, John, when he entered the Navy, as well as his grandson, Jerry, who recently enlisted in the Marines.

Family will greet guests from 10:30am until the memorial service at 11:30am, Saturday, Nov. 12 at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave, Barrington. Inurnment will be private at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN.
