Hawthorn Woods,

John Clark Bowen

John Clark Bowen, 52 of Hawthorn Woods, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, with his family by his side after his valiant battle against colon cancer. He was born on October 18, 1971, in Greenfield, Indiana to Clark and Sue (nee Ernsting) Bowen. John enjoyed his childhood in Sparta, Illinois before settling in the Chicagoland area after graduating from Bradley University, where he made lifelong friendships with his "brothers" of TEP. John was employed as V. P. of Marketing at W. R. Berkley Corporation and was treated with grace, generosity, and kindness, especially throughout his illness.

On May 27, 2006, John married the love of his life, Stacey (nee Baird), at St. James Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. John was the oldest of three boys, a wonderful friend, a supportive husband, a devoted father to his three children and loved spending as much time with his family as he could. John was known for his love of the outdoors, especially being at the farm or hiking with his family at the many national parks they visited. Before children, John was an avid runner, cyclist, and swimmer – even participating in a few triathlons! He also enjoyed fishing with his kids, golfing with friends, and drawing which is where his artistic talents really shined through. John's strong Lutheran faith and love of God comforted him, gave him strength, and direction throughout his life and he enjoyed sharing and instilling his beliefs with his wife and children. Anyone who knew John knew he was a diehard Cardinals fan through and through and proudly wore his jersey and hat at Cubs games. Above all, what brought John the most joy was his three beautiful children.

Along with his loving wife of almost 18 years, John is survived by his children, Ryan Clark, Emily Sue and Luke John Bowen; father, Clark Bowen; brothers, James Eric and Matthew Jay Bowen; and stepmother, Ellie Bowen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Bowen.

When you think of John, celebrate the good memories you have of him. Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest. He will be missed more than any words could express but he will be forever in our hearts. We hope you can join us in remembering him and celebrating his wonderful life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 11 with visitation beginning at 9:30 until the time of the memorial service at 12:30 at Heritage Church, 255 N. Quentin Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
