John Philip Burg, a beloved father, grandfather, and sibling, passed away on May 13, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, due to complications from congestive heart failure. Born on November 27, 1950, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, John was known for his friendly personality, his analytical mind, and his extraordinary ability to find loose change.
John is survived by his three children, John (Samantha) Burg, Stefanie Burg, and Jeffrey Burg, and his three grandchildren, Kyle and Mason (John Burg) and Adelaide (Stefanie Burg). He is also survived by his six siblings, Jim (LeVon) Burg, Mary (Charlie) Kelley, Trese (Steve) Kiefer, Rita (Jim) Fischer, Dan (Beth) Burg, and Mike (Lucy) Burg.
Throughout his career, John dedicated himself to public service. He began his journey as a Garbage man in Winnetka, Illinois; Later becoming the Assistant Manager of Public Works of Lombard, Illinois, before moving on to become the Village Administrator of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin. John's colleagues remember him as a hardworking and insightful leader who always put the needs of his community first.
In his free time, John had a variety of interests that showcased his adventurous spirit and love for learning. He was an avid biker and fisherman, often spending weekends exploring the great outdoors. John also had a knack for finding loose change, turning his hobby into a treasure hunt that brought joy to both himself and those around him.
John was a voracious reader, always eager to explore new ideas and perspectives through literature. His passion for the written word extended to his own writing as well, as he often penned heartfelt poems for his loved ones. He even published his own children’s book titled, The Pumpkin Patch Prank and Other Stories. The depth of his thoughts and emotions were beautifully captured in his verses, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love and wisdom.
As a testament to his friendly nature, John was known to have never met a stranger. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life, making everyone feel welcome and valued. His interesting conversations and genuine curiosity about others made him a cherished friend and confidant to many.
As the famous poet Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This quote truly captures the heart of John's life and spirit. John's warmth, kindness, and understanding left a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 4 PM until the memorial service at 7:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment will be private.
