John Carlton Dennis of Inverness, Illinois, loving husband and father died peacefully on January 14, 2013 after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife Betty; children Diana (Butch) Graf, Bob (Jean) Dennis, Cindy (Tom) Klimmeck, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. John earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University through the U.S. Navy’s NROTC program, was commissioned an Ensign and served aboard the destroyer USS Owen during the Korean Conflict. Following active duty, he advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve. John continued his education by earning an MBA while teaching Naval Science at the Illinois Institute of Technology. John’s profession was in commercial printing where he had a successful 30-year career with RR Donnelley & Sons Company, promoted from an entry-level engineer to Executive Vice President in charge of Donnelley’s worldwide operations. He was known as a printer’s printer and was respected and loved by those who worked with him. John was very active at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Barrington and a long-time supporter and leader of Junior Achievement of Chicago. A great lover of golf, John served as a Director of the Chicago District Golf Association and spent much of his retired time rating golf courses throughout the Chicago area. A memorial service celebrating John’s life and legacy will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd., Barrington. The family suggests donations be made in his name to Junior Achievement of Chicago or the Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois.
