John Dunbar

June 19, 1929 — August 20, 2016


John R. Dunbar, 87, of Barrington, IL and Daytona Beach Shores, FL died August 20, 2016 at his home in Barrington. He was a graduate of the State University of New York and attended the graduate schools of the University of Connecticut and Loyola University of Chicago.

A human resources consultant, he retired in 1985 as Director, Human Resources, for Northwest Industries, Inc. and in 1998 as President of the John Joseph Group Ltd, a human resources consulting firm, both headquartered in Chicago.

He was a 14-year member of the Barrington Fire and Police Commission, a member of the board and a volunteer counselor for the Barrington Career Center, and a former director of the Barrington Enlightened Taxpayers Association. He was also a charter member of the International Association of Career Management Professionals and a member of Human Resources Management Association of Chicago. He was an usher at St. Anne’s Church for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn (nee Wilson), and his two brothers, Donald of Durham, NC and Ernest of Rochester, MN. He is survived by his children, John (Rita) of Portland, OR; William of Long Grove, IL; Kathryn (Anthony) Gargiulo of Oak Park, IL; David (Cindy) of Silver Spring, MD and Sheila (Berry) Ellis of Wilmette, IL; thirteen grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 9am-11am at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington. Memorial Mass will follow at 11 AM. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
