John Harrison Edwards, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the age of 72.
He was born December 26, 1944 in Queens, New York, the son of Franklin and Irene (nee Hannon) Edwards.
John grew up on Long Island in Great Neck and Point Lookout. He served in the US Navy based in Jacksonville. After discharge he relocated to South Florida where he started his career with Sears.
Sears relocated him to Chicagoland in 1992 and Crystal Lake. His favorite pastimes involved the water-swimming/boating/golf and entertaining his grandchildren. Lots of Crystal Lake kids, big and small, called him Papa.
After retiring from Sears he started driving a school bus for District 47/155 and was known as the "monkey bus" driver.
In addition to his loving wife, Lois, he is survived by his children, Christopher Edwards, Mary Elizabeth Beltrame, and Gregory Sheldon; his grandchildren, Sean (Amanda) Watson, Kristin Edwards, Alecia Edwards, and Sara Beltrame; his great-grandchildren, Gage Watson and William Watson; and his siblings, Franklin Edwards, Eleanor Reilley, Harriet Blanc, Irene Bidondene and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Paul and grandsons, Steven and Derek.
Friends are welcome to visit with John’s family on Saturday, October 14, from 4-8 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake.
