Barrington, Illinois,The memorial service for John P. Enggaard of Barrington will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2011 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, where visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Reverend Dr. James M. Wilson will officiate. Interment will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Born August 14, 1927 in Smithville, NY, he passed away on April 5, 2011 at his home in Barrington. John served in the Army during WWII. A 1951 graduate of Syracuse University, he worked for General Electric for 23 years and was also a past president of GE?s National Elfun Society. He also worked for Admiral, Sylvania & Philips Magnavox. His last position was as a Financial Advisor with Waddell and Reed until his retirement in 1990. John enjoyed golf at Cary Country Club and traveling to Cancun every year with family. He was a member of Barrington American Legion Post 158, where as treasurer he supported the local middle school and baseball program. He took pride in presenting the annual Legion Middle School Scholarship awards. John was also an active member of Pheasants Forever. Survivors include his wife, Joan B. (nee Barth), whom he married on July 5, 1952 in Reading, PA; a son, John P. Enggaard Jr. of Baltimore, MD; a daughter, Patricia (David) Betz of Mill Creek, WA; grandchildren, Bryan and Parker Betz; a sister Kathleen Bridges, many dear nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Helen Lord. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
