John Daniel Harms, III

John Daniel Harms III of Crystal Lake, IL and The Villages, FL was born September 28, 1946 in Somerville, Massachusetts to the late John Daniel Harms, II and Ruth (nee Saunders), John passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 in Huntley, IL at the age of 70.

After John received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee he enjoyed a career in sales and marketing. Before starting his career he served his country as a First Lieutenant in the US Army. He served in Vietnam on the Cambodian border as an artillery officer assigned to the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment as a Forward Observer. He had a big, kind heart, a beautiful soul, a hearty laugh and he loved life! He was an avid golfer, enjoyed music, history, and loved to travel. He especially enjoyed the years he had living in The Villages, Florida, but mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Karen, he is survived by his children, John D. (Rachel) Harms, IV and Mark C. (Holly) Harms; his bonus children, Bret D. (Katie) Langefeld, Shana L. (Corey) Cables, Kirk D. (Marissa) Langefeld, Tara L. (Jason) Keller, Rory D. (Lindsey) Langefeld, Luke D. (fiancée Kelly) Langefeld, and JD (Melissa) Langefeld;  his grandchildren, John D. “Jack” V, Anna Marie, Lauren, Christopher and Kaitlyn Harms; his bonus grandchildren, Emme, Jane, Andy, Maddie , Henry and Lilly Langefeld, Kyle, Jared and Eric Cables, Cecily and Eden Keller; his brothers, Steven (Patricia) Harms and Peter Harms; niece and nephew, Sandra Harms and Daniel Harms.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 236 W Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake. The memorial service will be held Friday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to his family for the future John D. Harms Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the charity of your choice.
