Born July 31, 1947 in Chicago to the late Charles Otto and Wanda Annagayle (nee Hauger) Hayna, John passed away peacefully August 5, 2017 at his home.
John was an avid, life-long fisherman. He enjoyed home improvement projects and was an all-around handyman. While working for School District 15, John continuously provided strong support for the teachers’ union and was influential in the lives and education of many students. In retirement he was a passionate volunteer for Midwest Greyhound Adoption helping many greyhounds find their forever homes. Most of all, he considered his greatest achievement raising two boys to be outstanding men of whom he was incredibly proud.
John was a devoted husband to his wife, Elizabeth; loving father to his sons, Justin (Holly) Hayna and Spencer (Kathleen) Hayna; cherished grandfather to Connor and Luke Hayna; and brother to Gloria (Jim) Brandes and Pam (Dan) Koby.
Friend's are welcome to visit with John's family on Sunday, August 13 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington.
The funeral service will be held the following day, Monday, August 14 at 11 a.m. with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E Main St, Barrington. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
