John David Mason

October 29, 1975 — April 12, 2018

It is with devastating sadness that the family and friends of John David Mason of Crystal Lake, IL announces his passing on April 12, 2018. Born in Wooster, Ohio on October 29, 1975. He moved to Woodstock with his family in 1989. After graduating from Woodstock High School in 1994, he attended Winona State University where he met the love of his life, Michelle. He graduated from Winona State University in 1998 with a degree in Criminal Justice.  John and Michelle were married on July 28, 2001 and on June 4, 2007, they welcomed two beautiful twins, Natalie Christine and Zachary David.  John received his teaching degree in 2003 and soon thereafter John began working at Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake, IL where he was a beloved teacher of US History, Sociology and Law.  An avid sports fanatic, John took up coaching and truly found his passion and calling in life at Prairie Ridge High School, where he was a football and basketball coach for the Prairie Ridge Wolves. John’s family and his friends meant the entire world to him. To know John was to love him.

He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Florence Beyer and Almera Mason. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Mason; his son, Zachary Mason; his daughter, Natalie Mason; his mother, Roberta Mason; his father and step-mother, Walter and Karen Mason; his sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie Mason-Dycha and Thomas Dycha; his nieces, Kaylee and Riley Dycha, and Hadley Way; his nephews, Peyton Dycha, Samuel Way, and Dillion Beighton; his mother-in-law, Barbara Lellig; his father-in-law, Robert Beighton; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Gwyn Beighton, and Isaac and Christine Way.

The visitation will be held from 3-8pm, Monday, April 16, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A celebration of life will be held at 7pm, Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Prairie Ridge High School, 6000 Dvorak Dr., Crystal Lake, IL 60012. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family for a memorial scholarship that is being set up in John’s name.
