John Henry Michaels, 83, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012.
He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 11, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Mary Michaels, having been married from February 25nd, 1950 until the time of her passing in December 2007.
John was a long standing member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. He performed with the church choir and served as a member of the building committee. He worked for AT&T for 35 years. After retirement he worked for 12 years at the local Sears hardware store, where he enjoyed using his great knowledge assisting people in learning about building and the use of tools. As a young man, he served his country in the Army Signal Corps spending time after WWII in Germany assisting with the rebuilding effort.
John and Carol raised a family together and were influential in helping many others find happiness and direction.
He is survived by his sons Jeffrey John Michaels and Brett Robert Michaels and loving grandson Adam Leigh Michaels, along with Jeff’s wife Jill Q. Weiss and Brett’s wife Lauri Michaels. Together they celebrate his achievements and express deep appreciation for all that he accomplished on their behalf.
There will be a viewing from 4-8pm on Tuesday, December 11 and a service will follow on Wednesday at 10am. Both will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. Memorials may be made in John’s name to Bethany Lutheran Church.
