It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of John Salzinski on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from heart failure. Born John Szalczynski on January 13, 1944, John grew up in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago graduating from St. Stanislaus Kostka primary school, Weber High School and completing his degree in Psychology at Lewis College (University) in Joliet on a basketball scholarship. Born with a natural artistic talent, John won city-wide art contests as a boy and went on to a successful career in advertising, eventually owning and running his own advertising agency in Chicago’s River North for 20 years.
Retirement brought him the time to pursue his artistic interests and he began creating beautiful and fun paintings on large canvases. In 2021, John opened the online business Salz Paintings to sell his paintings under his artistic name of John Salz. He was so proud and excited to see his artwork put out to the world.
John is preceded in death by his parents Henry & Esther (Hoppe) Salzinski, his brother Michael (the late Rosalie) Salzinski, his grandparents and many aunts and uncles.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Susan Salzinski; his loving daughters Sarah (Chris) Jung and Jessica Salzinski; his sisters Judith (the late Stuart) Eastman and Suzanne (Dan) Bochniak; many loving nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews who adored their Uncle John.
Our hearts are broken and he will be missed dearly. A funeral Mass for the immediate family will be held on Friday, March 11th at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Chicago. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in the Spring.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or the Art Institute of Chicago.
