John K. Sciortino Sr, 72 of Crystal Lake
Born December 28, 1941 in Melrose Park, he passed away peacefully at his home Friday, September 19, surrounded by his loving family.
John worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 38 years, and also worked for the Leyden School District for 13 years. He was a heart transplant recipient in 1994, from donor Rick Orton, after becoming the longest surviving user of the HeartMate machine for 47 days. John was an active member of OTS McHenry County Heart Association and was an avid public speaker regarding heart health.
John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (nee Ellrich), children; Angela, and John K., Jr (Brandi) Sciortino, granddaughter Ana, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Sam Sciortino sister Barbara Salins, and his beloved dog Willie.
Visitation will be 10am until the time of the memorial service at 1pm, Saturday, September 27, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sciortino Family for distribution to several of their favorite charities.
