John "Jack" Sherwood

John L. “Jack” Sherwood, long-time resident of Crystal Lake, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the age of 86.
He was born May 27, 1927 in Chicago to Joseph and Kathryn Sherwood. Jack graduated from St. Leo High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps and proudly served his country during WWII. He was the co-owner of Chicago Stationers, Inc. in Chicago for 47 years. Jack was an avid golfer, and volunteered often for Faith in Action, religious education receiving the Bishop’s Award for his 25 years of service, and Meals on Wheels.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Mary (nee Ringness); children, William, Jean (Reid) Anderson, Dolores (James) Gorski, John (Beth), Terrence (Larry), Timothy (Julie), and Carol (Timothy) Kane, James (Maureen) Ringness, Kristin (James) Blake, Jennifer (Timothy) Schnepf, and Amy (Thomas) Perkins; grandchildren, Ryan (Liz), Todd (Krissy), Andrew, Meghan, Greg, Renee, David, Carolyn, Rachel, Kathleen, Jack, Magaret, Ann, Samantha, Marley, Mike, Bridget, Emmett, Kevin, Thomas, Lauren, Jana (John), Tara, Michael, Christopher, Benjamin, Carly, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Sean, Riley, Courtney, and John Paul; brother, Jeremiah (Sally); sister, Marilyn (Tom); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dolores (nee Mulcahy); brothers, Joseph and James; and sisters, Rita, Margaret, and Patricia.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, from 3pm until 8pm, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A brief visitation will be held the following day, Monday, February 24 from 9am until 10am at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held following the visitation at 10:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Thomas School Athletic Association, 265 King St, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 or to the JourneyCare Hospice Foundation, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.
