John Studley

Ocala, Florida, formerly of Crystal Lake John R. Studley John R. Studley, 89, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Crystal Lake, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 16, 2010. The son of the late William and Lillian (Jenkins) Studley, he was born on July 8, 1921 in Colfax, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Verna, in Raleigh, NC, on Sept. 13, 1944. He attended High School in Cornell, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, and served throughout Europe during WWII. He was awarded 3 Bronze Battle Stars among other medals. After the war, he and his family opened The Chuck Wagon restaurant in Cornell, WI. He later worked as a carpenter and founded J & L Builders in Crystal Lake, and built many homes in Elgin, Bull Valley, and Barrington. He later worked for William Tonyan & Sons in McHenry. He enjoyed metal detecting, was a member of the Crystal Lake American Legion Post #171, the Disabled American Veterans, and also the Masonic Lodge in Ladysmith, WI. He is survived by his beloved wife, Verna; his devoted children, Dennis (Betty) Studley of Crystal Lake, Barbara (Dan) Marson of Elgin, and Diane (Steve) Garbarino of Owens Mills, Maryland; grandchildren Jamie (Jeff) Klinefelter, Andrew Marson, John (Kristen) Studley, Katy (Greg) Michels, Nichole Quindel, Sarah Studley, and Garret & Zachary Garbarino; 13 great grandchildren; a sister Geraldine Dayment; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son Donald Studley, granddaughter Amy Beth Marson, brothers William and Patrick Studley, sisters Dorothy Smith, Mayme Christie, Beverly Wilson, Olive Studley, and Iris Allard. The visitation will begin at 9am and will continue until the 11am service, Wednesday, December 22 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, (IL Rt 176), Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at McHenry County Memorial Park, Hwy 14 & Lake Ave, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, donations in John?s name may be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.
