Joseph N. Balsamo

The Celebration of Life for Joseph N. Balsamo, 88, of Lake Barrington, will be held Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington. The family will be receiving friends starting at 1 pm with a service at 5:30pm.

Born June 22, 1929, in Chicago he passed away March 3, 2018, in Barrington.

His wife, Virginia, will remember him as a selfless, devoted and dedicated husband and father of almost sixty years. His children will continue to share with the world the excellent work ethic and commitment he exampled in everything he did and to everyone who needed him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will carry on his passion for life and the outdoors, especially fishing.

He attended DePaul University and served in the Army National Guard. In his younger years he worked for Sears and Roebuck, where he was in charge of the Auto Center at the Golf Mill Mall. He then worked at Mother Board Express MBX Systems in Libertyville where he retired at the age of 83.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia May (nee Cira) whom he married June 14, 1958; children, Janet, Thomas and Jeanne Balsamo; grandchildren, Nickolas, Wade, Michael Balsamo, Kellina (Joe) Rizzo and Andrew Wingate; great grandchildren, Penelope, Lukas and Shelby Rizzo; sister, Rosemary Polito and brother Anthony (Geraldine) Balsamo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nickolas and Mary (nee Montanaro) Balsamo and brother-in-law, Peter Polito.
