Joseph Brauneis

Joseph Edward Brauneis, 91, of Cary, formerly of Minocqua, WI, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at his home.

He was born January 31, 1923, in Gary, IN to the late Joseph and Wilhelmina (nee Zeilinger) Brauneis. Mr. Brauneis married Ruth I. Massey on September 11, 1948 in Gary.

A veteran of WWII, Joe served our country aboard PT Boat 191, a member of squadron 12, which was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for action in New Guinea.

Mr. Brauneis was an avid golfer, a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, a volunteer at Howard Young Hospital in Woodruff for 26 years, and a Eucharistic minister. He also had a 40-year career with AT&T.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Nancy (Dick) Stevens, Larry (Dee Ann), and Jerry (Carol); grandchildren, Michael (Angela), Amy, Brent (Anna), Lauren (Will), Mark (Caitlin), Eric, Taylor, and Caitlin; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Caroline, Alexander, and Isabel.

The visitation will be Wednesday, March 26, from 3 p.m. until the time of prayer service at 8 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake.

There will also be a visitation Thursday, March 27, from 12 noon until the time of transfer prayers at 12:30 p.m., at the funeral home, with a procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, for a 1 p.m., Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Minocqua.
