Joseph R. Tomek Sr., 92, of Lake Barrington passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 9, 2020. He was born on October 23, 1927 in Cleveland, OH to the late Josip and Anna (nee Matijan) Tomek.
Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Korean War. Joe later attended John Carroll University and Boston University. He and his family lived in Ohio prior to moving to Palatine, Illinois. Joe and his wife Lucille then lived in South Barrington, Illinois for 30 years before recently moving to Lake Barrington. Before his retirement, Joe was Vice President and managing director of the advertising division of AM International.
As a young man, Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, and all kinds of custom woodworking. He loved playing the organ, was an avid reader and a talented artist. His many beautiful paintings and custom Christmas “cards” are cherished by his family and close friends.
Most of all, Joe was very proud of his family. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 68 years, Lucille (nee Frcho); children Greg (Martha) Tomek, Joe (Nancy) Tomek, Doug (Karen) Tomek, and Lynn (Greg) Crowther. Grandchildren Katelyn (Tony) Hanna, Eric Tomek, Ashley Mathews, Andrew Tomek, Austen Tomek, Jamison Tomek, Ryan Crowther, Erin Crowther and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sisters Emma Koplan and Mary Tomek and a granddaughter, Monica Tomek.
A Celebration of Joseph’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Road, Inverness, Illinois.
