Joseph Michael Whowell

Joseph Michael Whowell, of Lake Zurich, formerly of Chicago and Elmwood Park, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the age of 60.

He was born March 12, 1964 in Chicago, the son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (nee Kraft) Whowell.

Joe attended Trinity International University, and graduated with a degree in communications. Joe was a retired police officer from Prospect Heights. He worked within the community to create outreach programs. He worked throughout his life volunteering at various church communities. His favorite being a camp leader at his childhood camp. Throughout his life, he valued working hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed the simple things in life like spending time with family, creating intense coloring competitions, completing a Wordle streak of 454, watching classic movies, painstakingly cheering for the Bears and the Hawks, and helping out with family’s or friend’s house projects.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; his children, Brittany (Josh) Grung, Stephanie Whowell, Ally (Eddie) Anderson, Jimmy (Steff) Whowell, and Shannon Scott; his grandchildren, Hailey, Aubrey, and Lacey Abdullatif, Josh and Jackson Grung, Thea, Eddie, Jr., and Joey Anderson, and grandson expected in December; his brother, Jonathan (Wendi) Whowell; his sister-in-law, Ingrid Whowell; and his father-in-law, James Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Andrew Whowell.

As we grieve the loss of his earthly body, we celebrate his entrance into heavenly home. We take comfort in knowing that he devoted his life to God. John 11:25-26 says, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich.
