Judy Stinson, 73, of Mohawk and formerly of Illinois, passed away Thursday July 26, 2012 at her daughter's home in Crystal Lake, IL surrounded by her family.

Judith Kathleen Marie was born on April 9, 1939 on the Karna Farm in Fulton, a daughter of Arthur and Elina (Haapala) Kivela. She attended the local schools and Calumet High School until 1957 when she and her family moved to Chicago, IL. She then graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago, IL with the class of 1958. Judy then attended the Chicago Art Institute.

In 1960 Judy married Robert Stinson, Sr. They raised 4 children and lived in Chicago, IL, Lake Zurich, IL, and Round Lake, IL. Judy made her career as an executive secretary for Quaker Oats, Elgin Clock Co., and the Illinois State Department of Health, retiring in 2000. Judy was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Mohawk.

For the last 10 years, she has been involved with many local artists groups and the Calumet Theatre. She was a long time artist specializing in oil painting. She enjoyed travel and many adventures with her long time friend Dennis Tomlinson, of Kenosha, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Robert Stinson, Jr., her step father William Maatta and a step-brother, William Maatta,Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew (Emilie) Stinson of Pinckney, MI and Dr. William (Karen) Stinson, of Crystal Lake, IL; a daughter, Susan (Thomas) Treanor of Crystal Lake, IL; and 9 grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday July 31, 2012 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Mohawk with the Pastor Tim Johnston officiating. Friends may call on Monday July 30, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet and 1 hour prior to the service from 10-11 am on Tuesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek, Michigan.
