Juil Wasmond

Juil Patricia Wasmond of Cary, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2013. She was surrounded by her devoted husband Bob and many of her twelve children.
Mrs. Wasmond was born August 28th, 1926 in Hurley, Wisconsin to Eugene and Catherine Stoddard. Her siblings, Catherine, Francis, Florence and Eugene have all preceded her in death, along with an infant son, Richard. Pat, as she was known, graduated from St. Edwards High School in 1944 and went on to become a registered nurse through the St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She met her husband, Bob just after high school and recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Pat and Bob founded Little Angels in 1958, a long-term care facility in Elgin that cares for children and young adults with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs. She was a compassionate advocate for children and families in need. Little Angels owes its very existence to her vision and dedication. Over the years, Pat helped countless children receive the care they needed and brought peace and comfort to their families. Her influence extended well beyond the children entrusted to her care, advocating for the rights of children with special needs on the local and state level. When daughter, Shelley took over in 1978, Pat continued her mission of serving children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Kane County, protecting the needs of abused and neglected children.
In addition to Little Angels, Pat and Bob opened Lolly’s Dollhouse and Miniature store in Elgin in 1971. Lolly’s continues to operate today under the management of daughter, Janet (Lolly).
The standard of excellence Pat instilled in her staff, as well as the empathy she exhibited inspired innumerable young employees over the years to undertake careers in special education, nursing and social services. Many lives have been forever changed because of her perseverance and generosity. The ripple effect of Pat’s influence will continue for years to come.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Joseph (Kathy) Wasmond, Paula (Charles) Stanley, Cheri (Philip) Heinrich, Cindy (Julio) Ramirez, Janet (John) Bayer, Shelley (William) Lewis, Mary (Gary) MacDowell, Robert Wasmond, Paul (Lisa) Wasmond, Patrick Wasmond, and Ellen (Benjamin) Edge; 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A “Celebration of Pat’s Life” will be held on Saturday, September 14th at Little Angels, 1435 Summit Street, Elgin, Il 60120 between 3pm and 6pm (short program to begin at 4pm). Donations to the Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care, a 501(c)(3) organization, is requested in lieu of flowers.
