The memorial service for Julia Schnabel Kenning, 98, formerly of Elk Grove Village, will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of service. The burial will be private in St. Peter Cemetery, Skokie.
Born January 23, 1916, in Milwaukee, WI, the oldest child of the late Albert and Amanda (nee Matthias) Schnabel, she passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Arlington Heights. She married her husband of 61 years, Roland E. “Bud” Kenning, June 27, 1936. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1997.
Mrs. Kenning retired from Silver Burdett Publishing Company. She enjoyed reading, politics, animals, and discussing the weather and current events.
Mrs. Kenning is survived by her children, Roland W. (Emily) and Douglas R. (Esther) Kenning, and Julie (Joseph) Balabuszko; grandchildren, Wayne, Brian, and Keith (Patti) Kenning, Erik (Lisa) Kenning, Sonja (David) Daum, Pamela (James) Balabuszko-Reay, Richard (Bridget Bugla) Balabuszko; great-grandchildren, Kiel and Kailey Kenning, Lilli Bugla, Hanna and Jane Daum, Gavin Kenning, and Isabella and Isaac Balabuszko-Reay.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland E. Kenning; and siblings, Daniel Schnabel and Doris Dean.
