June Reed

June 21, 1937 — July 20, 2015

June Brotherton Reed passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at her home in Woodstock with her loving family by her side.

Born June 21, 1937 in Medina, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Starner) Brotherton Trego and Carlyn Delno Brotherton. She met Jim Reed, the love of her life, in high school and they dated for several years, marrying the same day Jim graduated from college in August of 1958. June was very involved in music at school and participated in state solo competition along with singing in a sextet called the “Melodears” and various other choir groups.

June was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake and was actively involved with various areas of the church life; she was currently a member of a small group and was a prayer warrior for Stephen’s Ministry. She sang in the choir for many years and served in numerous groups. June completed a 7-year Bible Study Fellowship program and held Bible study in her home for many years. June had a contagious joy and energy for her faith and a passion for people.

June was a stay at home mom for 17 years, she also sold real estate for 21 years and helped with babysitting three grandsons for over six years. Singing, playing bridge, cooking and entertaining, traveling, studying the Bible – these are all things June especially enjoyed along with Birthday Club, Birthday Girls, and Door County. At the very top of her list of things she loved to do was spending time with her grandkids, family, and friends.

June is survived by her husband, James; son Scott Reed and his wife, Leza of Long Beach CA; son Jeffrey Reed and his wife Bridgette of Atlanta GA; daughter Jill (Reed) and her husband Lawrence Farino of Antioch; daughter Julie (Reed) Rowe of Woodstock; grandchildren, Sierra and Nash Reed, and Anthony, Nicholas, and Tyler Farino of Antioch; sister Karen (Brotherton) and her husband Roger Plaster of Akron, OH; brother-in-law Joseph Hanes Reed; and sister-in-law Marianne Brotherton.
It would be remiss to not mention her sweet, loving dog, Gracie, who was at her side for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Brotherton, and sister-in-law, Patricia Reed.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (IL Rte 176) Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Frist United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, 236 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in June’s name may be made to First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E Ohio St #304, Chicago IL 60611.
