June T. Stecher (b. June 5, 1930 - d. October, 5, 2018) was born in Cleveland, Ohio to an Irish immigrant mother and Greek immigrant father. She grew up on Chicago’s South Side and graduated from Old St. Pat’s Catholic High School, in 1948. After high school, June worked as an administrative assistant for Pure Oil, located in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Stecher, of Babylon, NY, who was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base, at the USO in 1953. They were married in 1955.
June loved to sing and had a passion for 1940’s musicals, including artists, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Tony Bennet. She enjoyed nature and wildlife and possessed a keen interest in butterflies, flowers, and birds. As a child, she attended Cubs games, including the 1945 World Series, with her father, James. She followed current events, world news and politics, passionately. She enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family.
June is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebekah Lynn Burns; survived by her husband, Robert; her six children, Robert Jr. (wife, Joanne), Sheila, James, Monica (husband, Randy Cotner), Donna (husband, Jerry Theis) and Lisa; grandchildren, Michael (wife, Ariane), James, Jonathon and Sara Stecher, Matthew Burns and Kaila Cotner, Christopher (wife, Lindsey), Francis (wife ,Viviane), and Timothy Coughlin; great-grandchildren, Andrew Grzybek, Raelyn and Lilian Stecher.
On Tuesday, October 9, visitation will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home. On Wednesday, October 10, visitation will continue at the funeral home at 9:30am with prayers said at 10:30am, proceeding to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, for Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee, IL.
