Karen A. (Anderson) Dahlen

Karen Dahlen (Anderson), age 77, of Schaumburg, IL and Sun City West, AZ passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates, IL after a well fought battle to cancer. She was born to Wilmer and Alice Anderson on January 1, 1940 in Hallock, MN. She attended elementary schools in Karlsted and Debs, MN. Karen completed two years at Bemidji High School before moving and graduating from Murray High School in St. Paul, MN in 1958. She attended University of MN by working at a credit union earning her own way.
She was preceded in death by husband Waldo. Married 35 wonderful years, they enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending time with friends. They moved to Schaumburg, IL in 1970 and were charter members of Lord of Life where Karen was involved with altar guild, Sunday school, and the church library until they purchased a house in Sun City West, AZ in 1989. She had a passion for genealogy, reading, and learning something new every day.
Karen, eldest of eight, was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother “Nana” cherishing time spent with her family in IL and AZ. She is survived by daughter Tracy (Lawrence) Brandon, of Fox River Grove, IL and grandchildren, Brittany and Trevor; siblings Marlys (Pat) Cook, of South St. Paul, MN; Wayne (Laura) Anderson, of Lincoln, NE; Warren (Mary) Anderson, of Hudson, WI; Julie (Jim) Ed, of Vadnais Heights, MN; sister-in-law Nancy Anderson, of Eagan, MN; brother-in-law Rick Sorenson, of Maplewood, MN; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Isabelle Sorenson, Arlette and Mark Anderson.
The family will welcome visitors at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 119 W. Wise Rd. Schaumburg, IL 60193 on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Memorial Service at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon at church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington, IL.
