Karen S. Harrer

Karen S. Harrer, 63 of New Orleans, formerly of Barrington and Chicago, born on August 3, 1953 in Morton Grove, passed away on May 20, 2017 after struggling with cancer for 6 months.
Karen graduated from Barrington High School in 1971, received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University in 1975 and her graduate degree from Rush Medical College. Karen retired as a nurse practitioner at University of Illinois Hospital. She was a volunteer river guide and board member for Friends of the Chicago River, a member of Holy Name Cathedral Parish in Chicago, and a volunteer on the medical team for Primal Quest. She also volunteered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Karen is survived by her parents, Jim and Mari Harrer; sisters, Aimee (Paul) Berner and Judy Harrer (Frank Warnock); nephew, Andy Berner; and a cousin to many.
Services are private. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.
