Karl Schiffmayer

Karl "Fritz" Schiffmayer of Barrington Hills, died Friday, April 2, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family. Karl was born October 12, 1935 in Racine, Wisconsin to the Rev. George Francis Schiffmayer and Margaret Elizabeth Hart. Karl graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Karl started Schiffmayer Plastics Corporation located in Algonquin in 1971. The company is still running strong today. His passion was racing his 289 Shelby Cobra all over the country. He soon became the fastest Cobra driver in the nation, beating Bob Bondurant. In Nov. of 1993, Karl purchased Paul Newman?s & Scott Sharp's GT1 Oldsmobile. Karl then won the SW Grand Prix National Race in 1994 and many others races. Survivors included his wife, Tina; brother, the Rev. Jeffrey Schiffmayer and wife Sylvia of Houston, Texas; nephews David Schiffmayer and wife Julie and children of Dallas, Texas, and John Schiffmayer of Paris, France. Visitation will be at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Avenue, Barrington on April 7, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael?s Episcopal Church, Barrington on April 8, 2010 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Fur Keeps Animal Rescue www.furkeepsanimalrescue.org, Spring Creek Restoration Project www.springcreekstewards.org , or the St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
