Barrington, Illinois,Kathryn A. Dunbar, beloved wife of John R., died on November 11, 2010 at the Pepper Family Hospice Home in Barrington, IL. Born in Binghamton, NY on July 2, 1931, Kathryn was a graduate of St. Patrick?s Academy in Binghamton. Kathryn attended Marywood College in Scranton, PA, where she received a Bachelor of Music Degree in 1953. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John R., five children, John J. (Rita), William W., Kathryn (Anthony) Gargiulo, David M. (Cindy) and Sheila (Berry) Ellis, and thirteen grandchildren. After graduating from college, Kathryn was the first Director of Music for the Susquehanna Valley School District, a rural upstate district, where she traveled from school to school directing music programs and teaching music. She left that job to raise her family. In 1965 Kathryn and her family moved to Darien, CT, where she was a member of the St. Thomas More Church choir. She and her family moved to Barrington in 1969. Kathryn led a musical life. Visitors to the Dunbar home would frequently find her playing the harp or piano, singing as she played. Kathryn loved a good party; smiling as she sang, she could light up a room. While raising her children, Kathryn continued giving piano and harp lessons. She was a parishioner at St. Anne Catholic Church and sang for many years in the St. Anne choir. In 1972, Kathryn organized and directed the Barringtones, a women?s choral group. She was an active member of the Barrington Chapter of Lyric Opera of Chicago. Kathryn also worked for many years as a real estate agent in Barrington. For the last ten years, she has been a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Daytona Beach Shores, FL, where she and her husband spent part of each year. Kathryn is also survived by three sisters, Ann Sweeney, Jacqueline Casey, and Lillian Wilson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Sister Lillian Farrell, IHM, who grew up with her in Binghamton. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20,2010, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Barrington, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
