It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kenneth Goodhand Kingston, who peacefully left this world at the age of 92 on Monday, March 24, 2025. Born on August 12, 1932, in Waverly, Iowa, Kenny was a devoted servant of God, a teacher, a loving husband to Patricia for over 65 years, a father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
For nearly three decades, he made a lasting impact as a junior high math teacher at Prairie Grove Junior High School, guiding and inspiring generations of students with his passion for shaping young minds. His ability to make math approachable and engaging left an enduring legacy in the lives of countless students. Kenny was also deeply committed to his fellow educators. His service to the Illinois Education Association, including his role as president of Region 26, helped lay the foundation for fair wages and benefits for future generations of teachers. He also spent the majority of his life as an auctioneer.
Kenny’s unwavering faith in God was evident in every aspect of his life. He cherished his church, the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, and was actively involved in various missionary efforts. His dedication to spreading God’s love led him to serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 15 years, including a six-year stint in Lima, Peru, and one year in Mozambique. His life was a testament to his devotion to God and his constant desire to serve others.
Outside of his academic and spiritual pursuits, Kenny was an avid sports fan. He played semi-pro baseball in his youth and enjoyed watching sports throughout his life. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or playing with his family, his love for sports brought him closer to those he cared about.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Pat; his brother, Tom (Sue); his children, Kim Abercrombie, Mark (Barb), Colleen (Stuart), and Craig (Cris); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held on Saturday, March 29, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, with the memorial service to follow immediately after. After his interment at Algonquin Cemetery, there will be a reception for family, friends, and loved ones at the church from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ken Kingston’s honor to Wycliffe.org or EFCCL.org (Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake).
Rest in peace, Pops. Your work on earth is done, but your spirit will live on in our hearts and memories.
