Kenneth E. Smiley, Jr.

July 22, 1929 — February 3, 2018

Kenneth E. Smiley Jr., of Barrington, formerly of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA passed away on February 3, 2018. He was born on July 22, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA to Dr. Kenneth E. and Katharine (nee West) Smiley.

Ken grew up in South Pasadena and San Marino, CA and graduated from South Pasadena/ San Marino High School in 1947. He attended Occidental College where he graduated with a degree in economics in 1951. After that he attended Stanford Business School and earned his MBA in 1953. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Guam.

Ken will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Bonnie (nee Smith), his children, Jill (Stuart) Asbjornsen of South Pasadena, CA, Kenneth (Darlene) Smiley III of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Ian and Anders Asbjornsen, Kenneth Smiley IV and Kelly Smiley; Bonnie’s children, Scott (Marcie) and Ken (Cindy) Smith; 3 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren; his sister, Mary Jo (Phil) Gumbert; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn (nee Avery); his sister, Sue Dixon, his brother, Douglas Smiley; and by his parents.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 10 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 337 Ridge Rd. Barrington Hills, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the church or to your favorite charity.
