Kevin L. Gerlach

Kevin Gerlach, 73, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Born and raised in Huntingburg, Indiana, he moved to Illinois post-college. Kevin married Margaret Kunz in 1973 and the couple was blessed with two children, Stephanie and Jeremy, along with two grandchildren, Audrey and Jeffrey.

Kevin held a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and a master’s from Concordia University. His 46-year career as a board-certified athletic trainer in Illinois included 15 years in school district 215, teaching and serving as an athletic trainer at Thornton Fractional North and South High Schools. In 1988, he moved to Crystal Lake and joined school district 155, where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 2006. He continued as an athletic trainer at Crystal Lake South until 2016.

Dedicated to athletic training, Kevin contributed significantly to the field. He was involved with the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association, the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, and the National Athletic Trainers Association, forming lifelong friendships and impacting many lives through his work.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, from 4 to 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A Mass will follow on Saturday, December 2, at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Crystal Lake, with a visitation starting at 9 AM.
