Larry L. Elder

Larry L. Elder, of Crystal Lake, formerly of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully from COVID-19 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

He was born July 5, 1940 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of the late Clyde James and Louise Caroline (nee Fowler) Elder.

Larry was a gifted artist that enjoyed painting and drawing. He loved nature, and at 50 years of age he walked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. In his seventies he was still walking a minimum of 10 miles a day. The last two years he slowed down to a mile a day as he approached his 80th birthday.

Larry is survived by his brothers, James Elder of Odessa, FL, and David (Gail) Elder of Wonder Lake, IL; his nieces, Jessica (Rob) Fetzner and Jillian Elder; his grandnephew, Drew Fetzner; and grandniece, Caroline Fetzner.

A memorial service for Larry will be planned for a later date.
