Larry R. Hansen passed away September 3, 2017, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL, after a brief illness.
He was born on June 20, 1935 in rural Winside, NE to Maurice “Buss” Hansen and Esther (Jorgensen) Hansen. He was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1952, and was drafted and served in the US Army in Germany for two years. He married Lou Ann Balcer in 1960 and they started a family in Lincoln, NE. He managed shoe departments in Lincoln and St. Louis before accepting a position with Consolidated Millinery Company as District Manager. This led to various promotions and relocations, taking his growing family to Fort Wayne, IN and Houston, TX. In 1980 he was named president of Consolidated Millinery, and moved the family to Barrington, IL. He served as president until 1988 when the company was sold to Eva Gabor, Intl. Upon retirement, he and Lou Ann moved back to the Fort Wayne area until she passed away in 2000 at their home on Hoffman Lake near Warsaw. In 2006, he moved back to the northwest suburbs of Chicago to be near his children.
Larry was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed many excursions with his family and friends in pursuit of trophy bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish.
Larry is survived by his children, Holly (Joseph) Ryan of Cary, IL; Jayson (Jill) Hansen of Genoa, IL; Karmen (Steven) Bussa of McHenry, IL, and Wade Hansen; his grandchildren, Patrick, Michael, Joseph, Sarah, Lindsay, Connor, Jake, Julia, Mackenzi, and Morgan; and his brother, Dennis Hansen of Pierce, NE.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou; parents; his sister, Jacqueline Caballero; and his brother, Douglas Hansen.
The family would like to thank the ICU Department at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital for the kindness and care shown to their father in his last days.
