Lars Eric Svensson, 95, of Woodstock, IL, passed away peacefully from this world into the arms of his heavenly father. He was born in Chicago on April 8, 1928, the son of the late John Elias Svensson and Hilder (nee Strand) Svensson.
Lars was married to the love of his life, Harriet (nee Nedrebo) Svensson, for 70 years. They were best friends and partners in everything.
Lars will be remembered as a strong man of faith who loved to serve missionaries worldwide, building churches, orphanages, clinics, and homes for the people who needed it the most. He continued working in his company, Ned Construction, into his mid-80s. Lars created Laymen Committed to Missions to encourage other contractors to share their skills with him on the mission field. He seldom left a conversation without explaining the miracles he saw on his mission trips, along with tears of gratitude. His book, Love Has No Boundaries, describes his work and deep love for others.
He is survived by his children, Jane Svensson, Ted Washburn, Tom (Claudia) Svensson, Sharon (Aaron) Fruh, Gail (Steve) LoBue, and Carol (Ross) Fruin, first cousin, Gunnel Strand; his grandchildren, Heather (Jeremy) Gresham, Erika (Fred) Burrows, Maria Fernanda Svensson, Rachel (Matthew) Cuccias, Liz (Stuart) Wann, Hannah (Chris) Mateer, Nathan Fruh, Kari (Jeff) Peitz, Katrina (Brandon) Couture, Eric LoBue, Hayden (Kenzie) Fruin, and Emilie (Jeremiah) McGowan; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Luke and Julia Gresham, Christian and William Burrows, Avery, Asher, Levi and Camille Larsa Cuccias, Ellie and Parker Wann, Ambrose and Laurence Mateer.
Lars was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet, and his two grandsons, Mark LoBue and Grant Fruin.
A private graveside service will be held for family, and a Celebration of Life Service will follow on Friday, March 15, at 1 pm at Christian Life Church, 400 E. Gregory St, Mount Prospect, IL, with a luncheon to follow at the church.
