Lake in the Hills, Illinois,Laura Lorenz, 54, went to be with God, Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Laura Phillips was born April 17, 1955 to Jack and Gloria (Schramm-Carroll) Phillips in Oak Park, IL. She attended Leyden High School and Triton College. She married Charles Lorenz on May 27, 1979. They first lived in Skokie after their marriage. Laura was a Critical and Intensive Care Registered Nurse and worked for Flight for Life. Laura was currently working for Anam Care in Rockford, IL. A passionate animal lover, Laura showed kindness and compassion toward all creatures. She had an ability to communicate with animals in a way no one else could. Giving her time and earnings to various animal causes, she worked for wildlife refugees during her youth and currently enjoyed volunteering at Helping Paws Animal Shelter in Woodstock. She loved playing with her dogs and cats and spending time with her family. Laura loved learning new things. Laura had a gift with animals and people alike. She showed love and a cheery outlook with everyone she knew. Laura was always eager to be of any support and help in any way she could. She constantly gave to others before herself. Frequently remembered as an angel on earth, she will be loved and missed by many. Laura had a devout faith in God and was an active member at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Harvard, IL. Laura prayed continuously and, drawing strength from that faith, passed that on to others who were close to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Phillips and Gloria (Schramm-Carroll) Phillips, her in-laws Honorable Judge Francis Lorenz and Teresa (Wendell) Lorenz, her grandparents and various beloved pets. She was the beloved wife of Charles Lorenz of Lake in the Hills, in which they shared 30 years of marriage. She was a treasured mother to Charles Lorenz Jr. of Harvard, Michael Lorenz of Lake in the Hills, and Katelyn Lorenz of Lake in the Hills. She is survived by her beloved brother, Steve (Moon) Phillips of Spring Grove, IL, her brother-in-law Frank (Elaine) Lorenz of Chicago and lots of nieces, nephews, friends, and pets. Visitation will be from 3-8pm, Sunday, November 8 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue at the funeral home, Monday, November 9 from 8:30am until the Funeral Prayer Service at 9:30am. A funeral mass will follow at 11am at St. Joseph?s Church, 206 E Front St, Harvard, IL. Burial will be private. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Laura?s honor to Helping Paws Animal Shelter in Woodstock, The ASPCA, The Humane Society, or other animal welfare causes of your choice.
