Lawrence Sheppard

August 17, 1947 — February 7, 2017

Lawrence J. Sheppard, 69, of Cary, IL passed away February 7, 2017 after a long battle with lung disease. He was born August 17, 1947 in Oak Park, IL to the late Earl and Mary (Doherty) Sheppard.

Larry graduated from St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights. He then served as a radio operator in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in Accounting.

Larry loved watching movies and listening to music. He loved America and was a great patriot. He really enjoyed traveling with his work and meeting new people. Larry never met a stranger and was welcoming to anyone and everyone who came into his life. He laughed easily and had a great sense of humor. He also never met a dog who didn’t love him. Larry was a lifelong Notre Dame subway alumni.

He was especially passionate about his family and will be sadly missed by his partner, Melody Lee; his three children, Christine (Brian) Barnard, Kate (Daniel McDonald) Sheppard, and Michael (Angela) Sheppard; five grandchildren, Quinn, Lauren, Annabelle, Miles Lawrence, and Daniel; brothers, Thomas, George, and Dick; numerous extended family and friends; and his beloved puppies, Baby Girl and Johnnie Angel.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Deborah, and his two beloved dogs, Bartholomew and Wilbur.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 2pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W Main St, Blue Springs, MO 64015.
