Crystal Lake, Illinois,Lee A. Hopp, 77, of Crystal Lake, passed away, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Centegra McHenry. He was born at home in Johnson, Nebraska on December 17, 1932 to Arnold and Helen (nee Schmid) Hopp. He attended Peru State College, Peru, NE and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. He also played basketball the four years he attended the college. Following college he joined the army and served on active duty from 1954 to 1956, traveling throughout Europe as both a member and educator of the Army Band, where he played trumpet. Upon discharge he moved to Chicago and began his employment with Protective Packaging/Fisher Container as a manufacturer?s representative where he continued to work until his death. He was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of McHenry and was devoted to his work on behalf of Gideon?s International since 1994. He was an avid golfer and loved all sports, especially basketball. He enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Lions Club of Crystal Lake for many years and served as a past president. Lee will always be remembered by those who knew him as a most loving, giving, accepting, and compassionate human being whose smile and gentleness brought joy to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by, his daughter, Cheryl (Bob) LaSarre Gaddis,; one granddaughter, Breah LaSarre and two grandsons, Devin and Ryan LaSarre, all of Crystal Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Donna Hopp. The visitation will be held on Sunday, July 11, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be held in Lee?s hometown of Johnson, NE at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lee?s name to Gideon?s International, PO Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37218-0800
