Leonard “Mac” W. McElhinney, 87, of Oakwood Hills, IL and Naples, FL was born June 28, 1928 in Morning Sun, IA to Merritt and Esther (nee Todd) McElhinney. He passed away peacefully Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Naples, FL.
Mac was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Korea during the Korean War. When his time in the service had ended, he married, Aileen (nee Hammons) on February 14, 1953. He was employed by Emerson Electric for 34 years. He loved all sports, especially golf.
Mac will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Aileen (nee Hammons) McElhinney; his children, Michael (Jeanette) McElhinney of Kingston, TN; Thomas (Karen) McElhinney of Austin, TX and Ann Marie (James) Hess of Crystal Lake, IL; grandchildren, Adam, Kathryn, Ameila, Victoria McElhinney, Spencer and Quentin Hess; and by a niece and nephew.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean McElhinney and brother, James Howard McElhinney.
Visitation will be held from 4pm until 7pm, Friday, February 12, 2016 at Davenport Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook), Barrington, IL 60010. A funeral service will take place at 11am, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Rd., Barrington Hills, IL 60010. Interment at Windridge Cemetery in Cary.
