LeRoy F. Rossman

September 6, 1935 — September 26, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

LeRoy F. Rossman, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully September 26, 2021 in McHenry.  He was born September 6, 1935 in Crystal Lake to Milton and Lydia (nee Klingenberg) Rossman.

LeRoy wooed the love of his life wearing his FFA bomber jacket at Crystal Lake Central after moving from St. Charles, IL. After graduation LeRoy went into the service before he married his lifelong partner of 65 years. After many jobs, LeRoy settled on being a mail carrier in Crystal Lake for many years until retirement. In retirement he was better known as our in-house pyrotechnic with a little John Wayne swagger. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, turned baker. He was known for his brownie cake, homemade bread, and biscuits and gravy.  LeRoy was also the volleyball setter for his park district men’s team and family team with a wicked serve. You could also find him at the bowling alley or at breakfast with the Class of 35’.

LeRoy was many things: lawn motorist; gambler; checkers cheater; duck and antler collector; bird feeder; and chipmunk befriender. There is more to recall, but anyone who knew LeRoy will also remember his colorful remarks and wit. He will be greatly missed.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma; children, Connie (Richard) Sexton, Steve Rossman, and Peggy (Gordon) Glauser; grandchildren, Hilary Agnello, Rick (Emili) and Max (Kristin) Sexton, Lee (Amanda), Luke (Amy), and Wil (Sara) Rossman, and Emma, Lia, and Charlie Glauser; and eleven great grandchildren with number twelve on the way.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Edward and David Rossman.

Visitation will be 11am until the funeral service at 1pm, Friday, October 1 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.  Burial will be private.
