Li-Chun Tao

Li-Chun Tao, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his home In Northbrook, IL with his wife Rita at his bedside.  He was born on September 17, 1930 in Hupei, China.  In 1939, to ensure his safety as World War II closed in on his family’s homeland, he was sent to the province of Szechuan to live with his uncle and aunt, Yao Chieh and Kuang Show Tao. His aunt and uncle ultimately adopted him and raised him as their own son, along with their other ten children.  When civil war broke out in China, he fled again in 1945 with his adopted family to Taiwan.

In 1965, he emigrated to the United States to pursue his Masters degree in Statistics and Computer Science at Kansas State University.  After earning his Masters degree, he worked as a Statistician and Systems Analyst at Baxter for many years until his retirement in 1995.

Li-Chun is survived by his wife Rita, his daughters Ellen (Mark) Bockelman and Ellie (Greg) Piatt, cousins Li Fan, Liana, Joanne, Li Jen, Li Guo, Lillian and Li Yuan, Granddaughters Kaya Piatt, and Alyson and Brooklynne Bockelman, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his birth parents, his uncle Yao Chieh Tao, his aunt Kuang Show Tao, and his cousins Li Chung, Li Hua and Li Ming.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the brief eulogy service at 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 5 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake Cook Road) Barrington.
