Lillian E. Harman (nee Field)
Born May 8, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, she passed away October 3, 2014, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. Lillian (AKA Peach) was a 50 yr resident of Barrington, employed much of that time as a secretary at UARCO. She was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader, serving on the PTA, and teaching Sunday school. She belonged to the American Legion and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in the WAC during WWII. She was an avid quilter, donated hundreds of knitted baby hats to local hospitals, and loved to travel.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda (Dennis) Apple, Warsaw, IL, Susan (Rudy) Nelson, Rolling Meadows, IL; Karen (Mark) Anderson, Genoa, IL, and Janet (Bill) Turner, DeBary, Florida; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Webster, Rebecca (Brett) Matzek, Cathie Apple (Tim Stanley), Julia Apple (Ashley Mussman), Matt (Jill) Anderson, Betsey (Alex) Strobl, Michael Burgess, Tim (Shae) Burgess; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Elliott Brown), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and nineteen nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Harman, a sister, and two brothers.
Memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s memory to the Illinois Veteran’s home, Home-Like Environment Fund, 1707 N 12th St, Quincy, IL 62301.
The visitation for Lillian will be held Wednesday, October 8 from 4-8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. A brief visitation will be held the following day, Thursday, October 9 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
