Lois Elizabeth Schmitz

January 29, 1922 — May 31, 2017

Lois Elizabeth Thurow / January 29th 1922- May 31st 2017  Daughter of Elizabeth Thurow and Fred Thurow.  Beloved sister of Ruth and Forrest.  Lois drove her first car at the age of 9 years old delivering water to her father working on their farm. She graduated from Yorkville High School, class of 1939 and continued her education at the University of Illinois where she received a degree in Journalism.  She met her future husband, Elmer Rollin Schmitz, at the University of Illinois. Elmer was a resident of Arlington Heights, Illinois.  Lois and Elmer had two sons Gary and Greg.   In 1954 Elmer built a home with the help of his brothers in Crystal Lake, Il. Lois was a fun loving person often seen volunteering at the First Methodist Church of Crystal Lake.  She loved riding her bike with her best friend Doris Ihde, a neighbor and organist at the same church and their friendship lasted over 60 years. Lois was a member of PEO and multiple bridge groups as well as a member of the Holy Roller Bowling league for many years and she often made their trophies. She loved to listen to Elmer play the piano and play his clarinet in a band in Venice, Florida.  She was always up for a game of any kind and liked to bring a dish to pass. Lois and Elmer golfed, boated on the Fox River and played games with their grandchildren. She will be remembered for her many interests including arts and crafts, fishing in Canada, cooking, baking bread, cakes and pies and her love of being with family and friends.
