Loraine R. Gillogly, 85, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2017. She was born on September 3, 1932 in Aurora, IL to Murray and Alice (nee Kelley) Rogers.
A 1950 graduate of West Aurora High School, she moved to Chicago in 1951 to attend DePaul University. She met Kevin J. Gillogly in 1954 and they united in marriage on July 16, 1955. They celebrated 25 years of marriage until his death in 1981. Loraine began her political involvement with her membership in the League of Women Voters in the late 1950s. In 1962, she was elected as the Democratic Committee Woman for Elk Grove Township. After her win, she was quoted in the Daily Herald, “Women should be aware of the workings of government on all levels. By being interested we help make the nation strong for our children.” Loraine, along with her husband, Kevin, actively supported Civil Rights through campaigning for the Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968). When the family moved to Barrington, she became the President of the South Barrington Park District in 1979. And later was elected to the Lake Barrington Zoning Board of Appeals in 1996. Loraine was a 22 year parishioner of St. Raymond de Penafort in Mt. Prospect and a 40 year parishioner of St. Anne’s in Barrington. She was a long-time bereavement minister for St. Anne’s. Her family joined Rolling Green Country Club in 1964, where she became Ladies Club Champion in 1994. Loraine became a travel agent in 1983, and travelled to over 20 countries, including trips to Asia, Europe, Africa, Central America and South America. She also enjoyed multiple trips to Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia to visit her daughters, Kate and Molly.
Loraine will be deeply missed by her loving children, Kathleen A. (Charles Wilson), Kevin P., Daniel C. (Amber), Timothy R. (Polly), Molly, and Matthew J. (Sarah) Gillogly. Her thirteen grandchildren, Keaton, Murphy, Zaya, Risa, Tim, Paige, Bonnie, Peter, Joseph, Patrick, Meghan, Andrew, and Colin. Her sharp wit, tenacity and persistence live on in all of her children and grandchildren. We know she is jitterbugging and golfing in heaven with her friends and family!
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Donald Rogers and Ray Kelley Rogers.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 4PM until 8PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 9, at 10 AM at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 N. Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington, with a visitation starting from 9 until mass time. Interment will be private.
