Lorraine J. Drews

d. May 1, 2017

Lorraine J. Drews, 85, of Huntley passed away peacefully on May 1. She was born in 1931 in Oak Park.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert, of nearly 66 years; children, Joseph (Linda) and Stephen (Paula); grandchildren, Tony, Matt, Amy, Kali and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Brandi, Tyler, Samantha and Jordyn; daughter-in-law Shelia; sister Mary Lou Lelivelt; brothers-in-law, William Drews, Edwin Drews; and the loving St. Anne’s community.

She was preceded in death by her sons, and the late Herbert Jr. and David and by her parents.

Lorraine met Herb roller-skating. For the rest of her life they enjoyed adventures together, raising a family and traveling the world. From white water rafting, to cruises, to tours of Europe they explored together, a lovely couple; friendly, kind, and welcoming to others.

Lorraine is a proud alumnus of Providence High School and she cherished her time at Harrington School of Design, Chicago, IL.

Lorraine loved being in the employ of John M. Smyth at his furniture store on Michigan Avenue. She was able to put her design degree to work there and in her beautifully decorated homes throughout her life. Later she became an employee of the Encyclopedia Britannica Company, meeting with school librarians and sharing the new educational materials developed by the company. As a result she knew where dozens of schools were situated in the northwest suburbs. Later she worked at 1st National Bank of Barrington, which became BMO Harris. Despite these demands on her time she found ways to support the activities of her local Catholic Church, first St Eulalia’s Parish in Maywood, and later at St. Anne’s Parish in Barrington, where she worked with Project Hope. But most of all she enjoyed at being a mother to her boys-willingly hosting their friends in activities and gatherings-making breakfasts and treats, and generally supporting them in all ways.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 120 Ela St. (corners of Franklin and Ela Sts.,) Barrington, IL 60010.  Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Palatine.
