Lorraine V. Egan

Lorraine Vanitta Egan, age 102, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Born on September 29, 1922, in Woodstock, Illinois, to Harold and Catherine (née Wille) Miller, Lorraine led an extraordinary life filled with service, love, and dedication. She graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School and Crystal Lake Community High School in 1941.

During World War II, Lorraine proudly served in the United States Navy as a member of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (W.A.V.E.S.), becoming one of the first 200 women to enlist. Stationed in Frederick, Maryland, she met and married her beloved husband, John Egan. After the war, Lorraine and John settled in Crystal Lake, where they built a life together.

Lorraine was a long-time member of the American Legion and actively participated in the communities of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and later St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She worked for many years at Reed’s Dress Shop in downtown Crystal Lake and later for McHenry County, providing vital support to seniors in need.

Lorraine was a testament to kindness, hope, and living life to the fullest. Her generosity extended beyond words into actions that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, “great-great” and aunt, cherishing her family as her greatest treasure.

Lorraine’s life was a beacon of grace and compassion, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to share in her journey. She is survived by her children, Katherine (Robert) Meyer of Libertyville, Patricia (John) Faellaci of Midland, MI, and Michael (Brenda) Egan of Crystal Lake; her grandchildren Jared (Tasha) Faellaci of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Dean (Hazel) Faellaci of Lake, MI, Amie (Matt) Krummick of Libertyville, Bryan Meyer of Raleigh, NC, Corinne (Eisen Ligutam) Egan of Crystal Lake, and Christina Egan of Crystal Lake; her great-grandchildren: William (Jordynn) Faellaci of Burlington, WI, Madeline Faellaci of Daphne, AL, Elizabeth Faellaci of Riverside, CA, Charlee Faellaci of Santa Rose Beach, FL, Jackson Faellaci of Santa Rose Beach, FL, Sophie Krummick of Libertyville, Jake Krummick of Libertyville, and Madison Meyer of Raleigh, NC; her great-great-granddaughter, Charlotte Faellaci of Burlington, WI; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, John Egan; her sisters: Rita Fitzgerald, Shirley Oost, and Sandra Brady; and her nieces: Connie Oost, Glenda Miller, and Brenda Oost.
