Louise Cronan

Gertrude Louise Cronan, of Barrington, IL and formerly of Morehead City, NC and Trumbull, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023, in Barrington, IL at the age of 88.

She was born December 8, 1935, in Fairfield, CT, the daughter of the late John and Gertrude Lyons.

Louise graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in Bridgeport CT in 1957. In 1958, Louise married Dr. Thomas L. Cronan in Bridgeport. Louise and Tom raised 5 children in Trumbull. Louise volunteered in the community including at St Joseph’s Manor and the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary. When the children were older, she worked as a travel agent in Trumbull. Louise and Tom retired together to Morehead City where they lived at the Brandy Wine Bay development. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the gardening club in Morehead City.

Louise enjoyed golf, sailing, skiing, and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an active, longtime parishioner at Christ the King, in Trumbull and St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City and recently St. Anne Catholic Church in Barrington.

Louise is survived by her children, Karen (Jerry) Weaver, Tom (Kathy) Cronan, Kevin (Lisa) Cronan, Sheila (Mike) Foley and Michael (Barbara) Cronan; her grandchildren, Daniel and Katie Weaver, Ryan, Megan and Allison Cronan, Sean and Tim Cronan, Caroline, Andrew and Jack Foley, and Leo and Julia Cronan; and her sister, Doris (Lyons) Riley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Dr. Thomas L. Cronan and by her brothers, Jack and Donald Lyons.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on January 13, 2023, from 11am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12pm at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N Ela Street, Barrington IL. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate .
