Loyce McNutt

September 14, 1935 — May 9, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

Loyce Jo McNutt, of Crystal Lake, passed away at her home on May 9, 2021 at the age of 85. She was born on September 14, 1935 in Kickapoo Township, OK to Rex and Ollie Smothers.

Loyce was a vibrant and successful realtor in the Crystal Lake area for many years before retiring early with her husband Al. After retirement, they enjoyed splitting their time between Crystal Lake and Scottsdale, AZ, as well as taking memorable vacations with their children and grandchildren. Loyce was a committed Christian and most recently attended church regularly at The Vineyard Church of Crystal Lake. She loved cooking for family and passed down many recipes to her daughters, though they could never match her results. She enjoyed outdoor walks and gardening in the warmer seasons. She also liked to play Mah Jongg, and read mysteries or wilderness adventure novels. Loyce spent a lot of time in later years talking with her cherished friends. Most of all, she loved being with her family.

She was a very caring person who invested time and energy in comforting, encouraging, and praying for others. She had a saucy wit. She kept her family entertained with her one-liners, and her seemingly bottomless well of Southern idioms and expressions.

Loyce will be deeply missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie (Dave) Kruser and Sylvia (Bill) Schafer; and her grandchildren, Natalie Kruser, Alex Kruser, Nathan Schafer, and Alexandria Schafer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander McNutt, in 2011, her grandson Joshua Bloomfield (survived by spouse CJ Dayananda), her grandson-in-law Rick Wachsmuth (spouse of Natalie Kruser), and her parents.

A visitation will be held on May 15, 2021 at 10 am followed by an 11 am funeral service at The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, 575 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment to follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park, Crystal Lake.

Donations may be made in Loyce’s memory to either The Vineyard Church of Crystal Lake, 7105 Virginia Rd. #18, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 or The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, 575 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
