Lucky Woods Somers

Lucky Woods Somers, 94, of Trout Valley, IL was born on April 10, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN to Lucky H. and Elsie (nee Marland) Somers and he went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2018.

Lucky was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Naval Aviator during World War II and later as a Helicopter Squadron Commanding Officer in the Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of Commander. He enjoyed church bible studies and served as a deacon at the Presbyterian Church in Barrington. He was class president at the University of Minnesota in 1943, president of the Arlington High School Booster Club and a Northwestern University Football supporter. He was founder and president of Somers-Stanton, Inc, a manufacturer’s representative firm; he enjoyed being with his family and having lunch with friends.

Lucky married Margaret “Peggy” Johnston on May 5, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN. They celebrated 63 wonderful years until her passing in 2008.

Lucky will be joyfully remembered by his children, Lucky L. (Barbara) of Temescal Valley, CA, Scott (Anne) of Glendale, CA, Brad (Patricia) of Sugarland, TX and Todd (Ann) of Trout Valley, IL; dear grandfather of, Brooke, Lindsay, Whitney, Grayson, Jim, Mary, Paul, Jack, Peggy and Beth; and great-grandfather of 16. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert M. Somers.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 AM at Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Rd., Barrington Hills, IL 60010. Reception and Celebration of Life immediately following.

Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
