Luther Tourville

June 7, 1930 — March 25, 2010

Barrington, Illinois,"Ray the Barber" Ray Tourville, 79, of Barrington, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at his home. Ray was well known as the village barber on Cook Street for over 50 years. He was well loved and highly thought of within the community. He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and served as the Chaplain of the American Legion Post 158. He was active in the Barrington Youth Baseball and was honored by the presentation of the first "Ray Tourville Founders Award" which is presented each year to a current volunteer. Ray was active in his church and served on various boards. Ray wasn?t just a village barber, but a man with a special gift which he shared with thousands of people that spanned over decades of time. The gift to take a life long friend or a total stranger and in the time it took to give them a haircut, he could make them see the meaning of their lives through conversation. His very character and strength made him stand out and he was never afraid to share those qualities with so many, day in and day out. His family couldn?t have asked for a better husband, better father, better man. He will be missed. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Marlene. Three daughters, two son-in-laws and one daughter-in-law, Kim and Jakob Kubler, Cindy Emling, Wendy and Sam Napoleon and Connie Tourville. Nine grandchildren, Jenny, Matt, Jamie, Gregory, Eric, Sabrina, Jeff, Tyler, and Tony. Two brothers, Harold (Jean) Tourville and Robert (Barbara) Tourville, and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Rick Tourville and his parents.
