Maggie Youel

February 29, 1992 — June 18, 2015

Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie) Youel, 23, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 18. Maggie was born February 29, 1992 to Curt and Therese (Ehrhart) Youel.

Maggie attended Husmann Elementary School, Bernotas Middle School, and graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in the top 10% of her class in 2010. As a student at Crystal Lake Central, Maggie loved being on athletic teams, playing tennis, basketball and soccer for the Tigers all four years. Wanting to be a teacher and a coach, a wife and a mother, Maggie majored in Spanish at North Central College in Naperville, IL. She earned two varsity letters in tennis as a collegiate athlete until she suffered a major stroke on April 16, 2012.

As a stroke survivor, Maggie worked harder than ever and inspired her family, friends, neighbors, and countless other rehabilitation patients and therapists as she learned to walk again, talk again, and care for herself and for others again. Maggie’s grace in remaining strong, cheerful, kind, positive, funny and happy in the face of such an unfair life challenge will remain as an enduring impression on the hearts of all who knew her and witnessed her work.

Maggie is survived by her parents, Curt and Therese; her two brothers, Ben and Gabe of Chicago; and her two sisters, Nelle and Evelyn at home. She also leaves behind the love of her life, Dylan Crawshaw, and many incredible friends, including her closest girlfriends Katie Bragg and Alyssa O’Donnell.

Maggie is further survived by her grandfather, James Youel; many aunts and uncles, Leisa Youel, Josh (Cindy) Youel, Tish (Job) Keltner, Jolie Youel, Dianna (John) Bardo, Bryon (Lisa) Ehrhart, Patricia (Michael) Schremmer, Robert (Stephanie) Ehrhart, Loretta (Joseph) Elliott, and Helga Seeliger; and a total of twelve cousins.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Geraldine Youel and Robert and Mary Ehrhart.

Friends are invited to visit from 4pm – 8pm, Tuesday, June 23 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Maggie at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 24 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, with a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. Interment will be private.
